VACUUM: A FLEXIBLE ALTERNATIVE TO GRAVITY PLUMBING IN CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES

In correctional facilities, AcornVac vacuum plumbing systems offer several advantages over traditional gravity waste systems.

The ½ gallon or 2 liter flush volume of the AcornVac toilet provides a dramatic reduction in water consumption and associated water and sewage processing costs. And unlike conventional toilets that allow bacteria to enter the cell environment via rinse down spray, the AcornVac vacuum toilet draws atmosphere into the toilet bowl during the flush cycle, providing a more effective cleaning of the bowl, removal of odorous air around the bowl and eliminating bacterial spray from the bowl.

Smaller diameter waste piping requirements and elimination of vent piping with the AcornVac vacuum plumbing system provides an additional material and installation cost savings.

The vertical lift capability of the vacuum plumbing system allows for greater flexibility in the layout of the facility as well as the waste drainage piping network.

The use of differential air pressures to assist in the transport of waste from the fixture to the sanitary waste mains results in fewer blockages within the facility waste lines, reducing maintenance time and the cost associated with removing line blockages.

Individual cells or groups of cells can be remotely controlled to prevent disposal of contraband, and cross connection between cells through the plumbing fixture is virtually eliminated.
